Random, Running Reflections As an Independent Publisher

I update this from time to time. I started it on 15 June 2020.

User Journey

Paying Subscribers

  • I was wrong about the user journey. I had assumed people would subscribe for free to test things, and that some of them would then join as paying subscribers/supporters/members. What often happens: People sign up for the first time as paying subscribers. (I don’t know how many sign up after discovering my work for the first time, or if they’ve been lurking” and have visited my website for months/years.)
  • Surprisingly few free subscribers decide to become paying subscribers.
  • I should get stats on the above.

Unsubscribes Are Good

  • I used to get sad when someone unsubscribed from my mailing list. I would feel rejected and like my work was no good.
  • Now I’m glad. If people don’t want or don’t like what I have to offer, I’d like them out of my life.
